Times photo David McPherson Serving local people THE newest Justice of the Peace (JP) service desk in the area opened at Half Moon Bay Marina on March 4. Operating in the covered entrance of the Fresh Choice supermarket, it will be open between 11.30am- 12.30pm on Tuesdays. It brings the number of JP serv- ice desks in East Auckland to 13. Norma-Jean Van De Rheede is the JP organising the service, with the approval and support of the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association. “Service desks are the new and successful way for JPs to serve the public,” says Ms Van De Rheede. “Rather than people going to a JP’s home, service desks bring JPs to the people. They’re available in easily accessible places within the community, with hours to suit local demand and needs.” Fresh Choice owner Chris Har- ris says he’s always keen to support local people. “Providing space for the service desk is one way we can do that,” he says. “The need to see a JP has become part of people’s lives. “To have one based in their com- munity will be an asset to Half Moon Bay.” Service desks are staffed by well-trained JPs, who are capable of dealing with a wide variety of issues. The most common are certifying copies, taking statutory declara- tions and witnessing documents. JP service desks in the south- ■■ east are at: Fresh Choice, Half Moon Bay (Tuesday 11.30am- 12.30pm); Pakuranga Citizens Advice Bureau, Pakuranga Mall (Monday 1-2pm, Tuesday 10-11am, Wednesday 1-2pm, Friday 1-2pm, Saturday 9.30-11am); Pakuranga Plaza (Thursday 6-7.30pm); Ho- wick Information Centre, Picton Street (Tuesday 12-1pm, Thursday 6.30-7.30pm); Botany Citizens Ad- vice Bureau, Botany Town Centre (Tuesday 1-2pm, Wednesday 12- 1pm, Thursday 12-1pm); Botany Li- brary, Botany Town Centre (Thurs- day 6.30-8pm). Names, addresses and telephone numbers for JPs are listed in the Yellow Pages, or online at www. jpauckland.org.nz.
