Our Homes TODAY It seems, this season, gardeners looking for something a little different are spoilt for choice with the release of more than 60 new seed varieties in Kings seeds 2013 catalogue, refecting the latest trends in gardening and cuisine. Managing director of Kings Seeds, Gerard Martin, says the new book features an exciting range, from microgreens, and vegetables, to fowers, fruit, herbs, organics and more – with some varieties available in New Zealand for the frst time. “This range will set gardens ablaze with colour and character. We received great feedback throughout the year from our customers and it’s inspired us to continue to introduce new and distinctive varieties.” Although he says it’s tough to choose favourites, Gerard believes the following varieties are expected to draw plenty of attention: New fower varieties Designed to brighten the spring/ summer garden, Marigold Chameleon is true to its name, with each plant displaying single, semi-double and crested blooms in varying blends of yellow, gold, orange and red. The Morning Glory Hazelwood Blues offers a mix of eye-catching shades from sky blue to deep violet (each morning new blooms appear to replace the spent ones of yesterday) and the Morning Glory La Vie en Rose variety offers shades from blush pink to darkest red. Goji Berry (Wolfberry) Seeds of this super food produce nutritious berries packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Originating in China, these versatile bright orange/red fruits are traditionally dried and eaten as snacks, made into fruit juices or used in muesli, soups or casseroles.
