Freq Music’s Dan Hesson is stag- ing another show with Kirby at Bosun’s Bar in Picton Street from 8pm this Saturday. “We could have flled the venue twice over, and everyone seemed to have a really good time,” Hes- son told the Times, about the frst dance party. “We had a lot of demand for it, but the problem is people tend to arrive late. “They are better off if they get there early. “We have got both small and large prizes this time and we want to make as many people happy as possible.” Hesson is organising dance par- ties in Howick to give young people entertainment options that don’t require travelling into Central Auckland. “I’ve had a heap of great DJs approach me since the frst one wanting to perform out here,” says the Howickian. Kirby, of Ponsonby, hosts a show on George FM (96.6FM) from 3-6pm, Monday to Thursday. There are several surprises lined up for this Saturday night, includ- ing an appearance by George FM radio show co-host and newsreader Kara Rickard. “Kara is the one who keeps Thane in line and she’ll be doing something a little bit different,” says Hesson. “We’ve also got DJ Dave involved. He’s the regular Thurs- day night performer at Bosun’s Bar and I want to keep that local How- ick connection. “Thanks to Red Bull we’ve got a new and improved top-notch sound system and we’ll be showing visuals of Howick and wider Auck- land as well. “I’m upping the production value and prizes.” Among the prizes up for grabs at this Saturday’s party are music headphones and a trip to Waiheke Island. DJ Thane Kirby plays the dance ■ party from 8pm this Saturday at Bosun’s Bar in The Prospect of Ho- wick, 78 Picton Street. Tickets cost $5 and can be bought at the door. A third Freq Music show is planned for Bosun’s Bar from 8pm on July 20, starring Australian DJ Dan Aux. Tickets cost $10 and are also available at the door. Back to spin tracks RETURNING: At his first sell-out gig at Bosun's Bar in May, DJ Thane Kirby wore a basketball-style singlet with Howick emblazoned on it, and was declared the new mayor of the town. Times photo Wayne Martin Star student July 2013 ADVERTORIAL 122867 We are now offering tuition in NCEA & Cambridge Maths, English and Science, including Chemistry and Physics to Year 13. Call today: Howick Centre 534 1619 Congratulations to Shanae Mercer, our Star Student for July. Shanae has been with us for almost three years. When she started she was really lacking confidence in her maths and was well behind the National Standard. Now she is in Year 9 and is a confident mathematician, gaining excellences and classed as a high achiever in Numeracy at Elim Christian School. We are proud of you Shanae! This is what Shanae says: Hi, my name is Shanae Mercer. I am 13 years old and attend Elim Christian College. I love to sing and play netball, and have been learning to play the flute for five years. I also enjoy drama and swimming. I have been attending Kip McGrath for help with my maths for around three years. I used to think that maths was near to impossible to do, and used to get low marks on my maths tests. My tutor, Judy, is so encouraging and supportive, and has helped me to understand maths better. This makes going to Kip McGrath fun and something that I look forward to in my week. My www.kipmcgrath.co.nz grades have improved a lot and I got an excellence for a recent algebra test. If you want your student to shine in maths and literacy, come in for a free, no-obligation assessment. Our tutors are all fantastic trained teachers with experience in teaching the New Zealand curriculum. Call today to make an enquiry or assessment.
