Helen Perry 271 8036 or firstname.lastname@example.org Tell me abouT iT IT WAS a musical lunchtime treat of sorts for Howick Primary School students when they wit- nessed a vibrant group of singers take to the school stage in a one-off performance last Friday. An Auckland-based group of more than 30 over-70s and some slightly under, the Summerset NZ Young@Heart Chorus were rehearsing at the school in prepara- tion for its annual show this week- end at Auckland Grammar School’s Centennial Theatre in Epsom. But this is no ordinary choir. Led by the primary school’s choir and music teacher, Christina Bevan from Howick, the musical ensem- ble tackles latest hits from contem- porary artists such as Black Eyed Peas and Red Hot Chilli Peppers with youthful vigour that connects with audiences of all ages. In one particular rendition of UK boy band One Direction’s Live While We’re Young, the children joined in the chorus, resulting in a wonderful harmony of voices across the age scale. Christina says it was a great time for both the young audience and the group. “It was nice to see the kids’ reactions – they really enjoyed it!” The Summerset NZ Young@ Heart Chorus present its Forever Young show this Saturday, April 13, 7.30pm and Sunday, April 14, 3pm at The Centennial Theatre, Auck- land Grammar School. Tickets: $25, adults; $20, seniors; $15, schoolchildren. They are avail- able from www.iticket.co.nz and at the door. However, tickets at the door were sold out last year, so book early to avoid disappointment! To find out more about the choir, visit www. nzyoungatheartchorus.org.nz. Photo supplied A RECENT holiday in Adelaide turned up a few surprises. One was very much a case of SNAP! Some 50 metres from our Adelaide Hotel I thought I was seeing things – The Apothecary. Obviously, not our popular Howick eatery but somewhat similar. On popping inside I discovered an impressive set up of stunning timber pharmaceutical counters, cupboards and a multitude of drawers all, arguably, turned to better use as a bar and restaurant. With the look of a gentleman’s club, Adelaide’s Apothecary exuded an air of intimate luxury. The units were purchased some 10 years ago from England by the owners who saw their potential for food and refreshments rather than drugs. Ted Waters from Howick’s The Apothecary purchased his units from Holland, so fittings for both venues sprang from the Northern Hemisphere. Unlike its South Australian counterpart, where liquid refreshments were the most prominent, The Apothecary, Howick, perhaps, has a greater focus on food. However, with the recent opening of an adjacent wine bar plus eatery in Picton Street, the wining and dining options have been expanded. So, with a fresh injection of gastronomy, Howick’s toothsome pairing could be going one better than its other half across the Tasman. Dining & Leisure Dispensing good food and wine ELEGANT: Adelaide’s The Apothecary – a solution for socialising.
