Therefore, it was appropri- ate that Cook the Books should be the venue for the launch of new vegetarian cookbook, The Ultimate Vegetarian Collection compiled by Dame Alison Holst in collaboration with her son, Simon. I was particularly chuffed to see this latest masterpiece from Dame Alison, whose books I first bought as a young bride back in the ’70s. However, in those halcyon days of dinner parties when we made our own paté and cheese sticks, prepared a three or per- haps four-course m followed up with homemade rum balls and truffles, we were always on the look-out for the rich and luscious. Today’s often healthier approach to eating, is quite dif- ferent from 40 years ago yet this latest book from the Hols kitchen, manages to meld wholesome with heavenly. Amazingly Alison completed he 100th cookbook la year, 30 of them c authored with Simon! Interestingly, oth Holst vegetarian coo books — Very Easy Vegetarian, Meals without Red Meat and Meals without Meat — have sold more than 250,000 copies. I expect this new book to also sail out of book stores especially with Christmas almost on us. The Ultimate Vegetarian Col- lection is a compilation of the best from all of Alison and Simon’s books. t m t r rh m find plenty to please them too. The likes of cheese burritos bulging with avocado, tomatoes, kidney beans, onions, and fresh coriander bound with lemon juice, cumin, olive oil and black pepper plus grated cheese, let- tuce, sour cream and a shake of chilli sauce must surely whet anyone’s appetite! With the focus on economical, solutions for family and friends. With more than 400 recipes, divided into 14 chapters, such as breakfasts, light lunches, beans, pulses and tofu, pies and pas- tries, and desserts and sweets, there are fabulous options for virtually every occasion. The book also provides a use- ful nutritional and pantry guide as well as a glossary and compre- a d d A 'Holst' lot of cooking going on in the kitchen YOUR CHANCE TO WIN This is a prize everyone should covet!
