Times photo Wayne Martin Collectors’ winning grins By Farida Master iT LOOKS like the suburb of Botany has enough stock of Colgate toothpaste to keep it going for a couple of years. The Great Colgate Carton Race is a competition for schools where they can win prizes by collecting Colgate cartons. The more they collect the more prizes they can win. The students of Botany Downs Primary School were recently spotted celebrating the cool col- lection of $3000. They won third prize for col- lecting 700 cartons of Colgate from May 31 to August 31. Teacher Paula Pearce co-or- dinated the collection and says: “I’m so proud of our school com- munity who all pitched in and bought Colgate, sometimes prob- ably more than they needed. “I think they have stockpiles for years now. “A special mention goes to the students in my classroom, who diligently counted all the cartons we received. “We learnt so much about big numbers.” Botany Downs Primary wasn’t the only school in the area that won a prize. Willowbank School came first with more than 1500 cartons. While this may not necessar- ily mean these suburbs have the cleanest teeth, participating in the carton collection could be a good start to brushing up on oral hygiene.
